Jacobite Gaels 1746–1763 | Network Visualisations

About

John Alasdair Macdonald is a part-time student at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI Profile) and has recently submitted his PhD thesis. John combines his history studies with his day job as a private tour guide (The Hebridean Explorer).

This website contains the interactive network graphs and visualisations – based on Social Network Analysis methods – which are a compliment to the PhD thesis (Jacobite Gaels 1746–1763). The future aim of this website is to offer an open source, stand-alone research outlet for wider engagement into the use of Historical Network Research (and Social Network Analysis) in Scottish historical projects. Additional research and technical support information will be added to this site after thesis defence in early 2026.
